As of last night I have completed 10 days (at level 1) of the 30 Day Shred. It actually took me 11 days because I took Tuesday night off. I didn't want to take any time off but the fire alarm went off at my apartment right after I got home 2 hours late from work. Hanna and I were stuck outside for awhile waiting for (not cute) firemen to come and turn it off. After all that I had zero motivation.
I won't be able to do it tonight (going to see my brother in a show) so I am going to start my 10 days of level 2 tomorrow.
Here is an update on how I am doing:
Pro: I have noticed amazing progress in my strength and endurance. In my whole life (even when I was super skinny and in great shape) I have never been able to do push ups and now I can (they are on my knees, but still.) Also, I feel like I have more energy.
Con: After the initial massive amounts of soreness wore off my knees started bothering me. My left is a little worse than my right so I have been trying to ice them. This morning they have finally started feeling a little better but for a couple days this week I was really getting worried something was wrong.
Pro: Overall I feel a lot more toned. My legs, arms, ass and abs are much less jiggly already. I tend to notice it around my face when I gain weight and I think it looks slimmer, also the ring that I always wear (which had been feeling kinda tight) feels a bit looser.
Con: I have decided my "official weigh ins" will be on Friday mornings, but this week I also weighed myself mid week. I was very disappointed to see that I was actually up about 3 pounds, I have been eating healthy and feel skinnier so that was upsetting. According to K (who is not a fitness expert) I am probably building muscle, which weighs more, and then it should start to go down. Is this true? Or am I doomed to be a fatty?

congrats on doing an awesome job!!
i agree, it is probably just muscle you are putting on- especially if you are noticing that your strength is increasing. you should focus more on how your clothes feel than the number on the scale- and it sounds like you feel skinnier, so yipee!!
Sounds like you are doing great so far!
Good for you for doing so consistently!
Congrats on making it through 10 Days of the Shred!!!
I am like one day ahead of you, I'm glad there's someone else who can relate! I started level 2 yesterday. At first I was like, this isn't so bad, but by the end I was dying. In a good way, of course. Well, a productive way at least.
I am also feeling more energetic, I'm going to try to stick with it. In level 2, she says something about imagining going swimsuit shopping...it really did help shame me into working harder.
I believe that is true and this is exactly why I don't get on the scale. I haven't weighed myself in a year and basically go off of how my clothes are fitting me. If I can still wear the same pants I'm a happy camper.
Good job on your progress so far! I love to hear when the Shred works for people. (I sucked at it.)
Sounds like your doing great! Way to go!
Don't let the scale dictate what's going on in your body. You feel skinnier so you are certainly getting skinnier. How have yoour pants been fitting?
Keep up the good work!
Stupid Shred. Ugh that Jillian is EVIL!
I'd say rather than weigh in just see how YOU feel. I finally threw my scale away because I become obsessed with it.
I heard somewhere that eating healthly like eating veggies & stuff with dietary fiber actually may make you appear to be heavier on the scale because your more gasy & you put on a lil water weight but then your weight starts going down after your body processes it all.
I'm glad your starting to feel the results. It's one thing to see it but to actually feel them I think that's more awesome. Good luck!!!
DONT pay attention to weight, PLEASE. When you first start working out, esp anythign that involves strength, you will gain weight... you are putting on muslce, or replacing fat with muscle. Muscle weighs about 2x as much as fat. It is more compact though for the weight so you should FEEL and LOOK better. Also, muscle mass increases your metabolism which will ultimately help you to BURN FAT (and eventually lose weight)... that's how it works. Anywayyy congrats and I hope Level 2 goes well for you :)
Wow! I am impressed! I have never even managed to complete 2 days in a row! What's your secret? ;)
Ok, I reallllllly need to get back into it. Way to go!!
I have heard this is so hard to do! So kudos!!
the building muscle thing is true. I'm not doing the shred, but I'm almost a month into my own exercise regiment and there have been ups and downs even though I have been SUPER strict about EVERYTHING. It helps if you weigh yourself ONCE a week at the same time every week, and don't weigh in between. The best time to weigh in is when you first wake up after you... "empty" everything.
Good luck! You're not alone! :)
yay shred!
Few things. Sounds like you need new sneakers. Don't F around with Knees
2 weight loss is 80% from food. The rest is really just building muscle during workouts.
keep going!
when some people first start working out again, they typically gain weight first. particularly women. when you first start working out (high intensity workouts like what you're doing), it shocks your body. shocking your body is a good thing and amps up your metabolism. you're going to see more and more results everyday. your weight may not change dramatically though because you are building muscle which definitely weighs more than fat.
keep it up, girl!!! you're doing awesome!!
honestly, i don't really go by the scale. how my pants fit me is the biggest determining factor.
You rock and are very inspiring!! I would have to agree with the masses that you're probably putting on muscle not fat lbs.!
Keep up the great work and keep telling us all about it! ox
