Is this title totally cheesy? I'm not sure, I love Frank Sinatra, so I think it is ok. Anyways, I am going to NYC tonight until Sunday morning. My parents and my little brother are going to look at a college (he is a junior in high school) and I am tagging along for the free trip and so I can visit my friend, H, who lives there. New York is by far my favorite city, I actually thought I would live there "when I grew up" (I think it was the result of hundreds of hours spent watching "Sex and the City") but after I spent a summer during college there I decided I prefer to live in the suburbs and visit the city at least a few times each year. This is a picture of near where I lived (Amsterdam Ave. and 120th St...a Columbia University dorm) during the summer of 2006. I was interning at the show, "Sesame Street," and had two part time jobs as well. And I still think I made no money! It was definitely a life changing experience...after that summer I completely changed my mind about what I wanted to do and where I wanted to live. And I never would have figured it out if I hadn't tried, so it was time well spent. Plus now I am very comfortable getting when I visit NYC!

Hamptons Nightmares
I had a lot of fun sharing my thoughts on the season premier of "The Real Housewives of NYC" last week. Not to mention, that was the post the earned me my first real comment of my blog...yay! (Please comment if you come by I would love to hear what you think...on any post!) So here are my thoughts on the ladies from last night's episode.
Ramona...when I saw the creepy white lizard I thought the truth was finally going to come out...there was the "real" Ramona, a tiny evil alien controlling the human shell we thought was Ramona. But it doesn't seem that she is ready to admit the truth yet (maybe next week?)...and because she took him out the alien peed on her in punishment, so she had to hide him away again. That bodybuilding picture will haunt my nightmares for years to come. Terrifying, just terrifying.
Speaking of nightmares...
Alex...in that "sailor"...dress...bathing suit...not sure what it was or when it would be worn...outfit. Scary. As was Simon's "whole package," thank God he opted to put the trunks back on. And I am not saying that because I am a "prude American," I am saying that because I don't want to see your wee-wee Simon! Where were the urchins while they were berating the beaches (if you don't like it...why are you there?) and spending 8k on ugly clothes? Oh right, probably with the au pair...so nice that they could make time for a "family" vacation.
Luann...Oh wait sorry...I must call her "Countess de Lesseps" as I am just one of the unwashed masses...just like the pizza delivery people. Come on...who doesn't give just their first name when the order a pizza! This is America and you are American...guess what...we don't have nobility here! I officially can't stand her after that benefit, she was talking then thought it was her place to get up and scold a bunch of adults. Then she kept talking. Hypocrite. Bethenny's comment was perfect...she was "discountess." Get over yourself Luann!
Jill and Bethenny...these two are so cute together! I want to hang out with them, they seem like they have a great relationship and love that Jill has taken Bethenny into her family. I think are a positive force in her life, which seems to have had some rough patches.
And the new girl...Kelly...still not sure about her. I thought it was kind of weird how she was bouncing around at the party with her dress flying up. It seemed a little childish but we could be seeing it out of context. I hope we see more of her soon, I know I would like to find out more about her.

Boot Search 09
I have been really wanting to get some low-heel/flat light brown "riding" type boots all winter. However, I am not sure it is a very practical purchase since they are not very "work-y" and I don't know how much use I would get out of them...oh if I didn't have to work I would have the cutest clothes and shoes, she says wistfully... Anyways, I was looking at Piperlime and found some I love but they all seem to only be left in size 6 and I am little apprehensive to buy fitted boots without trying them on. I guess I will just have to keep searching and weighing my options. I am open to suggestions!
Frye Bonnie Tall Riding Boot ($249.99) I think I might prefer something with a rounder toe.

Markon Sando Wide Shaft ($99.99) Love these and the price.
Corso Como Sandra ($159.99) I like the two-tone.

Steve Madden Buck ($114.99) These ones are my fav color I think.

Unexpected Blessing
No my title for this post does not mean I am pregnant, but we are gaining a new member of our "family."
Yes, in a few short weeks we will gain a new car. Remember how K borrowed his grandpa's car while Big Gray was getting fixed? On Saturday he went to New Jersey to bring it back and pick-up Big Gray so he could have it down here avilable to trade it when he finds something else...and his grandpa told him he could have his car! Then K found out today that he is going to give him the car...as in for free.
I am so glad he won't have to take on a car payment while putting himself through law school. His parents don't give him much financial support and we are both so greatful his grandpa is able to help him out in such an awesome way. Thanks "PaPa"!
Hopefully this will be the end of the car drama for a while...now the new car just needs a name!

Confessions of a Shopaholic
My best friend E ended up coming up this weekend from D.C., we had a low key weekend trying to to spend much money, and it was great to see her. She has a job interview on Tuesday so hopefully that will work out well. Before she left this afternoon we decided to go see "Confessions of a Shopaholic." I had read some of the books in the "Shopaholic" series and E loves chick flicks, so we both thought it would be cute.
It was pretty much as you would expect it would be. Cute, some laughs and cool outfits. I think I identify with the main character since she too falls into a job in finance and doesn't know what she is doing! The movie isn't going to win any awards and unless you really like girlie movies I would recommend saving your and just waiting and renting it on dvd or on demand in a few months.
***UPDATED***Speaking of On Demand...right after I posted this K and I watched "Burn After Reading." Much better then "Shopaholic!" It was very funny with a lot of plot twists and a great cast.
It Had to Be the Day I Didn't Wear Gloves
Since getting my two new pairs of gloves I have been wearing them almost every day and it sure is nice to have warm hands during my commute, even if my commute is only about 5 minutes. Thursday appeared to be warm out and since my commute is only 5 minutes the gloves are not, I opted not to wear them. Little did I know that would be the day I really needed them.
I left work a little later then usual so the parking lot was pretty empty and it was already getting dark. And it had gotten cold...and windy. I noticed a weird red light flashing inside my car's taillight. First thought...demonic possession...I began to plan an auto-exorcism, then realized my battery was dead. (If you haven't noticed I have a bit of an over-active imagination.)
This happened once before during the summer, about three days after I got my Jetta. See the lights turn off when you turn off the car, but if you don't flip the switch some current keeps going kills the battery. The fortunate thing is that the first time that it happened K's jumper cables got left in my trunk so I had them. My dad was also only about ten minutes away on his way home from work. So he came over.
Unfourtunaly, my dad has never used his car to jump someones, and couldn't find his battery. So he's looking around for it and fiddling with different things...as my hands go numb and I try to keep from crying thinking about the new gloves on my counter at home. Eventually we found the battery (his is under the floor in the trunk) and jumped the car.
It was minor drama and my the 30 minutes I spent aimlessless driving around letting my battery charge up were more then adaquet to warm up my hands. I am so lucky that I live close enough to my family that I can call them up when I get into these situations! Believe me that is the last time I leave home in the winter without a pair of gloves.

The NYC Housewives are Back
I was not too impressed with the OC "Real Housewives" this season...to be honest I found them to be a bit boring. I have high hopes for the NYC gals, and watched the season premier last night (I couldn't stay up till midnight to watch it on Tuesday.) Going into the second season I thought I would share my thoughts on the housewives...Bethenny Frankel...is by far my favorite "housewife" in any of the three locations. She isn't technically a housewife, but oh well. I think Bethenny has a great sense of humor and seems not to take herself too seriously. Her blog about the "Real Housewives of Orange County"was awesome and very witty. I think I will have to buy her new book when it comes out.
Luann de Lesseps...snob. I went back and forth about her last season. I appreciate her trying to bring back good manners but I still can't get over her scolding my girl Bethenny when she introduced her to the driver as "Luann." Then she has the audacity to say that "the worst thing is people thinking then are better then other people." Hello hypocritical! Get over yourself Countess.
Jill Zarin...overall I like her. Sure, she is a gossip but she knows it as do her friends..and they love her for it. She says things she probably shouldn't but owns up to it when she hurts someone. I like people who can laugh at themselves, which Jill can and does.
Ramona Singer...might be out of her mind. Seriously. Has anyone else noticed the constant crazy look in her eyes? I thought she was going to attack poor Kelly at Jill's fundraiser. I like her husband, Mario, and her daughter, Avery, seems very mature and well mannered. Not sure how they put up with Ramona. Compared to last season she was pretty low-key in the premier but I'm sure she will stirring things up soon.
Alex McCord...and Simon, her sidekick...I could probably have a whole blog devoted to those two. I have never seen two people more desperate to be famous. They sure are entertaining, I'll give them that. I can't wait to see the shenanigans they will get into this season...although I wouldn't mind missing out on more images of Simon in a banana-hammock and Alex in a thong bikini. My eyes are still burning.
Kelly Killoren Bensimon...the new girl. My first impression was OMG she was married to one of the prizes of "America's Next Top Model"...Gil Bensimon (I have watched wayyy too many marathons of ANTM over the years.) She does seem to be a little out of the league of the other ladies...I think that is what Bethenny meant by saying she was in the "fabulosity crew." The social climbers, Alex and Simon, are going to be on her like white on rice.

Oh the real world...
It's days like these where I wish I could rewind my life and go back to elementary school. Back where being an adult seemed cool and problems were small.
I have just spent the past hour or so talking to my best friend, E. Sad to say she is one of the unemployed people making up the rapidly growing statistics you hear about on the news. She got laid off a couple of months ago from a job she loved. It sucks. Now is not the time to be looking for a job. I just wish there was more I could do to help her but all I can do is be there when she needs to vent. I invited her to come up this weekend just to get away for everything so hopefully she will.
We are also dealing with car drama. Last year when K was living at home his best friend's dad gave him this old car he had gotten for free. It looked like a short limo and had red velour seats but it was pretty reliable. I called it Big Gray. Recently it has been needing more maintenance and I have been trying to convince him to stop putting money into it, however he said he wanted to drive it into the ground. Well that happened this past weekend, while he was in New Jersey. So he borrowed his grandpa's extra car to get home and is going to have Big Gray fixed so he can bring it down here and trade in for a new car. We knew this would happen sooner or later but it still is a pain...we need to find him something reasonably priced and that won't give him trouble. He has a lot on his plate with working and putting himself through school he needs to not have to worry about a car, even if it means taking on a car payment and thus making a tight money situation even tighter.
It's hard being in the real world.

Trip to Boston
I'm back! The trip to Boston was great...cold...but great. It was nice to get away from work and spend some time with my mom and sister. We left as planned on Wednesday afternoon and got to Boston around midnight, the only traffic we ran into was getting out of Baltimore, it was smooth from Delaware on.
Thursday morning Mom and I walked around our hotel area in the morning then went over to meet Sissy for lunch at her college and drop off her presents. We went to the bookstore while we were waiting for her to get out of class and I was mistaken for a high school junior on a college visit. I was not sure how to take that one. If I had looked like this at 16 I probably would have been unable to look in the mirror let alone fit into my American Eagle outfits. Anyways...Sissy had another class in the afternoon so Mom and I decided to go to the movies. The theater was empty, there were 5 people total...and that includes us. We saw "Taken" which was basically "24" with Liam Neeson, it was nothing amazing but held my interest. It was the weirdest movie theater I have ever seen. Very steep and narrow and since no one was there but us for a while I took a few pictures.
I thought it looked kind of like a stairway to heaven...or maybe hell, especially with the weird red light created by the exit sign in the back.
Just wanted to prove that it was indeed a movie theater.
After the movie we met up with Sissy again and took her and her roommates out to dinner at a cute restaurant near the campus. She came back to our hotel with us so we could go out and do some Boston things the next day.
On Thursday we went downtown and wandered around the shops on Newbury Street, then we met my cousin for lunch at the Parish Cafe. If you are ever in Boston you should check it out, the menu is mostly sandwiches from the chefs of other top Boston restaurants. I had this amazing roasted pork sandwich with lime and green curry. They also make some mean cocktails. We walked off our lunch and then went to the Top Of The Hub for more drinks. It's a little pricey but you can't beat the view, especially at sunset.
Boston Public Garden
Cool old buildings in Beacon Hill
The Top of the Hub sign...pretty obvious
Amazing view, Sissy told us the restaurant rotated...which it didn't seem to be doing...so we asked the waitress and she told us it only does after a few drinks. I have a feeling she uses that line a lot.
This church was right below us.
Sunset over Boston.

I had the best lobster ravioli of my life! Then Mom and I headed to my grandparents house where we relaxed, went out for seafood (they live in the steamed clam capital of the world) and spent time with my Nanny and Pop.
Like I said, it was a great time, and after all that food I am totally ready to get to work losing weight! Back to work tomorrow :(

Off to Boston
My mom and I are driving to Boston as soon as I get out of work tonight (it will be a long night) so I won't be posting for a few days. I'm going to try to take lots of pictures and will tell you all about the trip when I get back. Have a good rest of the week and a nice weekend! Happy Valentine's Day!
My mom gave birth to a healthy baby girl...well actually she wasn't breathing when she was born...but soon after she was very healthy. I was a precocious two and half year old at the time and not very happy about this interloper stealing the spotlight. I don't remember much about that day other then our neighbors taking me out to dinner and getting some presents but the family stories have been told so many times they feel like memories. My dad dressing me in a two small outfit from a bag designated for goodwill (my mom always dressed me like a little doll so she wasn't too happy to see that when I showed up at the hospital in highwaters.) Me scowling saying "nice little baby" through gritted teeth at her. And after she had been home for a few weeks telling my mom "this is nice, now when does she go back?"
Needless to say our relationship improved dramatically over the next few years. Being army brats we moved around every few years so it was nice to always have your best friend there with you. We have worn hundreds of matching outfits, spent days playing Barbies and seen each other through good times and bad.
I am so grateful to my parents for giving me a little sister 21 years ago today. I can't imagine my life without her in it.

A Few Random Things
Sorry if this an over-share but I have had the WORST PMS over the past week. I never used to get much in the way of PMS which was lucky for me, now I still don't...except every couple of months when I feel absolutely horrid. I have a rather large chest to begin with and now I feel like Dolly Parton...but without the tiny waist since I am completely bloated. The last couple of days I have started to feel crampy and my lower back is killing me. I am so ready to get my period and feel better, because usually as soon as I do I feel really skinny. I feel sorry for all those who have this every month, thank God it only happens to me occasionally. To top it off last night all I wanted to do was eat junk....specifically...chicken ramen noodles, a grilled cheese made with extra cheese and a Chik-fil-A milkshake I had K pick up for me on his way home from school. Just call me Miss Piggy.
Which brings me to my next random thing...weight loss. Before Christmas I was being very good about going to the gym and watching what I ate, but I have slacked off. I am jumping back on the bandwagon and K is coming with me. Starting on Monday we are going to have weekly weigh-ins and I am going to make a chart for the fridge. I think if we do it together we will be more successful.
We are starting on Monday because tomorrow I am leaving to go to Boston with my mom for my sister's 21st birthday...but there will be more on that to come!
One more thing...
Remember my longing to participate in the facebook 25 things meme? I was finally tagged! Yay! I did it this morning...as usual I was "working" hard at work!

He's Just Not That Into You
I had every intention of posting over the weekend...as you can see that didn't happen. K was working on a big project for school on the laptop in the office where the desktop is...and I didn't want to disturb him since I am such a wonderful girlfriend ;) My computer situation is basically this: I don't have one. Mine died an unnatural amount of times so now I use K's laptop or his desktop...I kind of want my own laptop but I don't see much point in bringing a third computer into the mix, as normally there are two I could use at any given moment.
So I had a lovely computer-free weekend doing other more social activities (fundraiser for K's law school and a surprise 50th birthday party for a family friend to name a few) and now I am back at work.
Yesterday I decided to go to the mall to get a Valentine's Day present for K and a birthday present for my sister; my mom joined me and then we went to go see "He's Just Not That Into You." I am not a huge chick flick person but this movie was really good. In fact it could hardly be called a chick flick...I think guys or girls would enjoy this movie.
Maybe I am biased because I love Ginnifer Goodwin, who played the main character Gigi (she is on "Big Love.") I didn't know that she would have a bigger part then Jennifer Aniston, who I like but I don't think she is much of an actress...so that was a pleasant surprise. I also love ensemble cast movies, when they are done well, which this definitely was. Anyways...I don't want to give anything away but go see this movie! With V-day this week it would make a good date movie or if you prefer a good girlfriend movie. Let me know what you think if you see it...I love talking about movies!

Something(s) to Spice Things Up
I mentioned in my 25 things post that I am not very happy with my job...it's a long story and I am definitely going to post more about it sometime soon. I promise. But for now all you need to know is that I am not happy with it, but sticking with it for the time being, mainly because of the job situation out there is not so good and I am grateful I even still have a job in this economy.
That being said, working all day in a job I dislike then go home to an empty apartment and hanging out by myself all night is starting to really get to me (K goes to law school in the evenings so he doesn't get home until 9:30ish.) The fact that I don't have any close girlfriends in the area doesn't help either. Now I am someone who enjoys being by myself...but I am not a hermit...I also like being around people and doing things (and watching 90210 reruns doesn't count as doing things.) So since I am sticking with my job...for now...I am working on finding some "extracurriculars" to spice up my evenings.
(I hope that doesn't sound like I am considering stripping...although the extra income might be nice.)
What do you think of my ideas? Does anyone have any others I could look into? I am pretty open as long as it doesn't require too much money. I am going away for part of next week but I plan to start pursuing some of these ideas when I get back.
In other news...this morning I dropped off our lease renewal agreement so we will be living in our apartment for another year. The rent is only going to be $20 more they what we pay now, so $10 for each of us which I am very happy about. I have heard horror stories of rents going up hundreds of dollars in a year and was scared that would happen. We really like our apartment and the apartment complex. I wish we could afford to buy something now, but that is not going to happen...so we are staying put and will re-evaluate when this next lease is up. Plus we don't have to move...yay!...moving is such a pain!

Here are some of my ideas:
1)Joining a Book club (I love to read and I think it would be a good way to meet people, the only problem is I have no idea how to find a book club...help if you can.)
2) Zumba (I found some classes nearby and extra exercise would definitely be helpful in trying to lose a few pounds...has anyone tried it?)
3)Get a puppy (ok, ok, this isn't a new idea for me and it is actually going to happen this spring or summer...more on that to come.)

The Snuggie
I have noticed a lot of blogs talking about/mocking the Snuggie so I really can't say anything that hasn't been said...except one thing.
If one of the draws is keeping you warm as you walk around (looking like a cult member) what happens to your butt? Does it have any back snaps or anything? Please snuggie owners enlighten me.

25 Things
So there has been this thing going around facebook where you list 25 random things about yourself, I thought it seemed fun so I have been waiting for someone to "tag" me. Sadly none of my actual friends...not random facebook friends...have jumped on the bandwagon, and I don't want to start it, so I thought I would do it here. This way I can be more honest and also use it as a starting point for future posts. So here are my 25:
1) I hate big pieces of chicken, I don't mind it if it is cut up or shredded or in thin strips, but a big piece grosses me out. I am pretty picky about my chicken, which is why I rarely will order chicken dishes in restaurants.
2)I can read really, really fast. I don't read as much as I did when I was younger but I still read every night before I go to sleep. I also re-read books over and over again.
3) I don't think anyone understands how much I truly do not like my job.
4) I have an addiction to TV, I thought it was because my mom didn't let me watch very much TV as a child, but I found out that she didn't allow me to watch TV because I exhibited the signs of the addiction as a baby.
5) I have a huge imagination...and a very weird mind.
6) I have a really regimented morning routine, and I don't have alarm clock, I use my cell phone alarm. I also hit snooze at least 5 times.
7) I would really like to lose weight.
8) There are two film trilogy's which actually changed my life: "Indiana Jones" (so not counting the new one) and "Lord of the Rings."
9) My mom is one of my best friends and I tell her everything, except I never told her that I got kicked out of one of my sorority formals. It's not that she would even care, I just don't know how to bring it up now.
10) I worry about my dad, I think he works too hard and is under too much stress.
11) I go back and forth regretting not going abroad during college, I know it would have been an amazing experience but I don't think K and I would have the same relationship now if I had gone.
12) I like living in Maryland but I wish I had more friends that lived closer, I basically have no friends around me and I wonder if I will ever make some.
13) I feel like I had a 10+ year "career" as a babysitter/nanny before I graduated from college. I cared for many, many children which I loved doing, but being a full time nanny affirmed that I will never want someone else raising my children. I will do whatever I can to stay at home with my kids when I have them.
14) I hate the sound of writing with markers, just thinking about me gives me goosebumps.
15) I broke my nose cheerleading when I was 15 and my sinuses have never been the same.
16) I really don't like sports...especially football, I don't even pretend to understand it.
17) I love to sing, I took voice for 10 years. I don't however, like to sing with a group, like chorus. I have trouble blending.
18) I am very conscientious about my money, I have to jusitify to myself everything I buy.
19) I love my car (it's an 08 red Jetta), but sometimes I feel like I can't afford it.
20) Sometimes I act like a real b*tch and I can be very mean to the people who are closest to me, I am greatful for them for putting up with it, especially K.
21) One of the primary reasons I got my bellybutton pierced was to impress K before we were together, I don't regret doing it because I liked it too, but I think I will probably take it out soon. I feel like I am too old for it now.
22) I feel extreamly lucky that I was born into the family I am in. I have wonderful parents and hope to raise my children as well as I think they raised me and my siblings.
24) I refuse to believe that what I am doing now is my career, I hope to find a job that makes me happy someday soon and I want to start figuring out what it should be. There are so many things I am interested in...it's hard.
25) Since I turned 21 a few years ago I get confused about how old I am, sometimes I tell people I am 24 on accident or 22 (I am 23.) I have no idea why I do this.

Resturant Week
Ok so the title for this post is not so creative but it's early on a Sunday morning so please don't judge. Despite the fact that I have lived in the Baltimore area for 12 years I hadn't heard of restaurant week until this past summer. If you live in this area you definitely should check it out. There is a summer week and a winter week and it is a great chance to check out some amazing (and expensive) restaurants you might not go to regularly. They offer a price fix menu including appetizer, entree and desert for only $30.09. Good news if you are around here and haven't gone yet...they have just extended the winter week February 8th, a whole extra week. And if you don't live in Baltimore don't fret, I am pretty sure that most cities have some kind of restaurant week, so look into it!
Last night K and I went to The Black Olive in Fells Point and it was awesome! It is a very cute little restaurant with a homey feel. I checked out the regular menu on the website and even if you don't go during restaurant week the menu isn't too pricey, it would be nice for a special occasion. They have a HUGE wine list with wines from all over the world and if you are watching your budget you can be like us and get a half bottle. K and I both got the seafood salad for an appetizer, it was pieces of shrimp, lobster, octopus and calamari mixed with red onions, tomatoes and cilantro...very summery. We both said we probably could have eaten a whole bowl of that. Foe the entree K had the Rockfish kabob and I had the Kleftiko, which was lamb cooked in parchment. It came out in the parchment still and the waiter scooped in onto a plate with couscous. The lamb was so tender and had a slight lemony taste, which worked very well. For dessert I had the carrot cake and K had baklava; carrot cake is about the only cake I like and this was probably the best I have ever had. All in all, a great meal at a very reasonable price, and another neat thing about The Black Olive is that they use almost all organic ingredients...so it is good for you too!
