Nothing Special

I have this really good (at least I think really good) idea for a Fashion Friday post but I really don't have the motivation to do it today, may next week. I feel kind of blah. I hope it isn't the onset of swine flu. Kidding, kidding, I really just don't feel like writing, instead I am going to force myself to work out.

In the past maybe month or so my weight really hasn't changed which is disappointing. It is strange because I can definitely tell my body is changing; I am toning and look thinner but I want to see the number on the scale go down too! I try to just keep thinking that it is marathon not a sprint and what I am really trying to do is create a healthier lifestyle...but that is easier said then done! On a more positive note I really like the Kettlenetics dvds, I have the one with two different workouts and I started with the 20 minute basics but am now doing the 40 minutes...which is HARD, but satisfying. I want to get the 30 Day Shred...has anyone tried it? I think I am going to keep going with the kbells too but I would like to mix it up. If you have any other tips let me know, I don't want to "go on a diet" because then you have to go "off" (as they were saying on Oprah today.) I am getting used to it taking time but I appreciate any insights you all might have!

Tomorrow marks one year since K and I moved into our apartment! I can't believe how fast time goes by. He is in the middle of finals right now so I am going to be leaving him alone and spending some time with my mom this weekend as well as going to visit my puppy. I can't wait to post more pictures of her! Have a great weekend everyone!


P.S. This post ended up a lot longer then I originally thought! I guess I felt like writing after all.

Um Kelly, the mothership called...time to return to the home planet

If I had any lingering doubts about Kelly's insanity they are now gone. That lady is a nut job. Seriously. The first strange incident last night occurred at the Countess' Luann's "Sex and the City" Girls Night (how sad was it by the way that she was talking about living vicariously through the single girls...ironic.) At first I thought that Kelly was kidding when Luann told her to let her hair down, and she actually...let her hair down. I really think that she didn't know what that expression means.

Then there was the showdown with Bethenny, where Kelly proved she knows about "mountains and molehills." Yet another incorrect expression Kelly, way to go. The "showdown" was just awkward, I really can't think of anything snarky to say about it...it was just too weird. I mean who tells someone right after this big fight "you look great in that Zac dress"? Huh?

I really think she is an alien...I used to think Ramona was, but next to Kelly, Ramona looks...dare I say...normal?

Perhaps Simon and Alex will drag her back to their (NEWLY REMODELED!) Vampire lair/living room and feed her to their wild French monkey children.

Here are my things, most of them are pretty weird:

1) My car, it was my first big adult purchase and I just love it. Sometimes I think it is too expensive but then I drive it and I fall in love again.
2) Seeing horses in fields. I was never a horseback rider or anything but I always love to see them and yell "Horsey!" as a go by. Weird, I know. If Donkeys are there with them it makes it even better.

Blue, White and Frustrating

I had every intention of blogging about my wonderfully fun weekend, however it really wasn't. It was actually pretty frustrating the majority of the time. I love my friend, R, but she is not the best hostess...basically she didn't seem to care much about what we wanted to do and was more concerned about meeting up with guys and her other friends. The day involved a lot of cleaning up, monitoring people that were obnoxious, and jumping said people's cars. I won't bore you with all the details...oh and to top it off I got a totally sweet farmer's tan sunburn. My friends get along great but with any close group of girls...there is drama from time to time.

Do have to point this out...I volunteered to organize the packing of the car to go to the tailgate. And it was a thing of beauty; my dad---one of the best car packers in the world---would be so proud. In fact I need to show him this picture. We also fit 7 people in there too!

So while I didn't have the best weekend my day was just made as I was checking up on all the blogging I missed...I won the Jimmy Buffett Challenge at Adventures in Newlywed! It is the first blog giveaway I have ever won! Thanks Newlywed Wife, love your blog!

Happy Weekend...a bit early

I am not going to do a Fashion Friday post this week because I am cooking and baking tonight for the weekend then leaving work early tomorrow. My college girlfriends and I are going to Penn State (where my friend R is in grad school) for the Blue and White Weekend. I am not familiar with this Penn State event but it is supposed to be super fun and we will be tailgating all day on Saturday (hence the cooking and baking.)

Fashion Fright Night

The fact that it was Halloween was not what made last night's "Real Housewives" truly creepy...no, that was Alex and Kelly's fashion choices.


Yes, the burlap corset was for a good cause but it was absolutely disgusting. The fact that it was burlap doesn't even bother me too much, but why did it have to say FEED across Alex's emaciated frame? Also, it didn't seem to fit her nor did the skirt she wore go at all. Everyone knows a burlap corset needs a burlap skirt. As promised she did wear it to opening night at the Met, and I am sure she made quite a splash (see below.)

Then there was Kelly, I don't know what she was going for with the head shots, her face did look nice and distinctly less-leathery, but why was her bra hanging out and why did her jeans look like something a punk high-schooler would wear? Is that the image a woman her age and a mom would want to portray on head shots? What is she planning on auditioning for exactly? I was confused...and grossed out.

How silly was her comment about how her Playboy bunny costume was "flirty but appropriate for a mom." Ummm...no it wasn't. There is a small window of time when a normal woman can pull off a Playboy bunny costume. Kelly does have a great body but she passed that window about 10 years ago.

I don't think "taking the kids trick-or-treating" was the reason her and "Max-Max" (who went as a...naked man...original) were late to the party. I would say use your imagination...but then your eyes would be burned out and I want you to keep reading my blog!

Not a Good Day

Today was not a good day. I have blogged about my job frustration before and how while I am frustrated I don't want to look for a new job in this economy. While my company had not laid anyone off, everyone (including myself) felt like we had to really toe the line as any little thing could get you fired. This morning all of that changed, there was company-wide lay off and people of every level and position were let go. Needless to say, I was terrified this morning as managers pulled people away from their desks...then never brought them back.

Fortunately, I was not laid off and the managers have assured us that there is no expectation of having to do this again. I feel a little guilty even saying this but it is almost like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders, I won't be expecting to get fired everyday now...yet I also feel horrible about those who were laid off. It is a sad situation, plain and simple. I complain about my job but it is a good company and I know no one in management wanted to see this happen.

Moving on...I think another bird might be in my dryer vent (see this post.) The scratching noise is back again. I am going to see if it gets out on it's own tonight then call the apartment management company tomorrow...kind of sucks because I was planning on doing laundry tonight but I don't think I could bring myself to turn on the dryer. That would not end well for the bird.

Whatever, Martha

First of all, I can't believe that this is even a TV show, let alone that I watch it. I have been trying to fill the void in my early evenings now that I have finished the 90210 reruns on Soap Net...in my search I discovered the Fine Living Network. What a random, interesting channel. They even show "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," oh Fab Five how I have missed you all...and "Iron Chef"...the real Japan one! While on Fine Living I came across "Whatever, Martha."

Has anyone seen this? Basically Martha Stewart's daughter Alexis and her friend Jennifer (who have a show on Martha's Sirus channel) sit there watching old segments of "Martha Stewart Living" making fun of it while drinking and being generally inappropriate. It actually is hilarious.

It is on a lot of random times so I can record it and watch it when I have nothing better to do. Think "Mystery Science Theater 3000" only Martha...not weird old movies...and no robots. At least not yet. I am certain Martha can construct a robot with craft glue and glitter.

Fashion Friday---5 Target Finds

Like the rest of America I am trying to save money right now, yet with the weather getting warmer it is hard to resist the urge to freshen up my wardrobe. Now I know I have professed my love of Target many times so in honor of saving money I decided to check out Target.com to see what deals I could find. Here are my top 5 Target fashion finds:

Merona Collection Belted Swirl Dress ($44.99) How cute is this? It could totally be dressed up or down, and I think it would be flattering on any shape. I would throw a little cardigan on and wear this to work.

Xhilaration Peacock Print Hinged Clutch ($12.99) This would be very cute for going out or with a little black dress. Normally I probably wouldn't think to get a purse at Target but at this price who could resist.

Miss Trish of Capri for Target Lion Sandals ($29.99) I can see some people not liking these but I think the lion is whimsical. Last summer I totally fell in love with gladiator sandals and I like that these have that feel to them but with a twist.

Merona Sailboat Slub Tee ($10.99) No clue what a slub tee is exactly, but this would be great to throw on with shorts. While boating perhaps.

Mossimo Black Mix and Match Dot Swimwear in Berry ($17.99 each piece) Now, I am not ready for bathing suit shopping yet but if I was I would check this out.

For Some Breaking Up is Not Hard to Do

I know my last few post have been totally TV-centric so I decided to discuss something I was thinking about the other day while perusing old pictures on Facebook. Friend break-ups.

Now I am not talking about gradually growing apart which is probably the most common way to loose friends or even some kind of falling out. I mean an awkward break in a friendship you thought was just fine.

I have always been a girl who prefers to have a small group of really close friends rather then a huge group of semi-friends, so naturally over time I have had friends that have moved on and even some that have been forcibly kicked out of various groups (think middle school folks.) Usually in these cases it built up over time, and the friendship ended slowly. It's part of life so whatever.

Not all that long ago I was broken up with. Actually, it wasn't just me that was broken up with, it was all of my college girlfriends. I know I have blogged about them before but we are a very close group. By the end of senior year we had six of us that were really the core of the group, my ex-friend...we'll call her Jane...was part of that core.

Jane could be annoying it's true, but we all have our moments and I considered her one of my best friend. Jane was someone that I always thought would be in my wedding. She had this compulsion about her older sister, I think she thought that her parents didn't like her as much and that she couldn't live up to her. When it came time to look for jobs she panicked and opted to do something completly different and out of chacater for her, by joining a non-profit type program (I am being intentinally vague here but it involved working with kids. And I didn't even think she liked kids.)

The program required her to move to DC which was great since a lot of my other friends, as well as myself, would be living in the area. I remember the last conversation we had as friends, she was about to move and we talked about how close we would be and how I could come stay with her on weekends since I was going to live with my parents. Everything seemed fine, and she had similar conversations with my other friends.

Then...boom..break up. When we were in DC she would come up with excuses not to see us, and keep in mind some of my friends LIVED there. She stopped calling...in fact she changed her number. We saw her a couple times and she acted totally weird. It was seriously one of the weirdest expirences of my life. I guess she just wasn't that into us.

I feel like I will always wonder what happened to make Jane break up with us. So I ask...has this ever happened to you? Is there a good way to break up with a friend?

She Works Hard for the Money?

Call me crazy but I do not think hiring someone to create a (book-jewelery-skin care products) then putting your name on it counts as work, Real Housewives of NY. The only skill required is harnessing someone else's talents, making a few doodles or dictating how many times one should kiss someone. That is not hard to do ladies.

It doesn't really both me that they do this type of thing; if you have the money and the real talent behind the operation doesn't care...more power to you. What does both me is that they call it "working" and talk about how hard this "work" is. Let's call it what it is...using your money and semi-fame to market something all about you to the sheep out there and make even more money.

Yes..I know just for blogging about this I am exhibiting sheep-ish behavior...and I am sad to admit that Kelly's jewelry actually is pretty cute. Love the little owls. Not that Leather-face really made the jewelry... so nice work "celebrity" jewelry line maker guy.

Which brings me back to my point...why can't they just admit that this isn't work? Why? Maybe I am jealous...I would much rather dictate a few words of a book then go to work everyday.

Oh, and Leather-face...be careful playing in traffic girl, that it never a good plan.

Greek

First of all I would like to say that I blame my friends for getting me hooked on a very cheesy, yet highly entertaining and addicting TV show. Normally I would not even think to watch a show on ABC Family but my eyes have been opened. The weekend of the infamous fire we all watched most of season 1, and now I have been watching season 3 on Monday nights. My wonderful friends have filled me in on what I missed of season 2, but I still need to borrow the dvds from B. The show that I speak of is "Greek."

"Greek" is about a bunch of girls and guys that go to "Cyprus Rhode University" and are all in various sororities and fraternities, so it follows their different Greek activities as well as their personal lives. Even though it is on ABC Family, I would not consider it "family friendly," some parts are kinda scandalous...in a good way.

I was in a sorority and I don't think it is very accurate but that's ok with me! It doesn't make being Greek look bad or anything, which is a nice change from a lot of other shows/movies. Does anyone else watch it? (if you don't want to admit you do that's ok, I won't judge hehe)

You Are A Cute Little Fella

Does anyone else think that the little cereal guys from the Frosted Mini Wheat's commercials are just the cutest little things? Or is there something wrong with me?

I don't even like Frosted Mini Wheat's but when the commercials come on I totally want to go buy some, so a little mini wheat will ride around on my shoulder. It is kind of sick that you would be eating his or her friends who for some reason don't have appendages and faces...and the shoulder-rider condones this.

But...there is this one where a baby-like one learning from the older one about how to keep someone full and whatnot. The baby's name is Little Bite! How cute is that? I want to adopt Little Bite!

Happy Easter!

I have been making the most of my long weekend by being totally lazy, watching lots of movies and hanging out with K and Gryffin. Gryffin has strewn his toys and bones all over the apartment and I have set up a little encampment for myself on the couch. On Monday I'm sure I will wish I had been more productive but for now I am enjoying doing nothing!

Since my extended family is kind of scattered we don't have a set thing we do every Easter, last year my parents and siblings went to my grandparents house in Massachusetts but I couldn't go because I didn't have any days off of work. K was still living in New Jersey then so he came down to visit me, we decided to do fondue for Easter which was a lot of fun. As it is just the two of us again this year we are going to have the 2nd annual "Fondue Easter" tomorrow. It should be a yummy and relaxing day.

Good or Bad?

Unexpectedly, my three day weekend has gotten an early start as I ended up only being at work for half the day today.

HOWEVER

This is what led to that half day....K and I have been puppy-sitting for Gryffin (my parent's puppy) while they are taking my brother on college visits/visiting my grandparents for Easter. As I am lucky enough to live about 5 minutes from my office I have been coming home on my lunch break to walk him. Today, I arrived home and took him outside where he experienced some kind of...poo incident...much time outside followed, along with a nasty bath then a thorough bleaching of my tub, then more time outside...somewhere in there I called my boss and told her I would not be able to come back in to work today.

Oh the joys of pets...just kidding...I love pets so I don't mind but I am glad K wasn't home since he has some kind of poo-phobia and probably would have thrown up.

So while I do not thank Gryffin for what I just dealt with...I am happy to be starting my weekend early.

How could I get mad at this face? He seems to be just fine now, by the way.

Shame On You Countess

Normally my comments about "The Real Housewives of NYC" are snarky and not to be taken seriously at all. I do not know these women, I judge them based on a highly edited show which they voluntarily participated in. I don't know how I would feel about any one of them should we actually meet.

That being said, something happened on last night's episode that stuck a serious nerve with me. No surprise the offender was Countess Luann.

If you didn't see it here is the gist of what happened: Luann went to some kind of community center type place in Brooklyn to meet with a girls group. The girls seemed to be pre-teens and I assumed from the way Luann was talking they came from underprivileged backgrounds. The girls were discussing self esteem. I guess Luann was invited because her self esteem cup runneth over. After a lot of self esteem talk Luann asked the girls what they wanted to be, and one girl said she wanted to be a model. Yes, she was overweight but she was 10 years old...Luann told her "losing weight is easy."

Are you serious!!! Who tells that to a 10 year old!? I am all for kids being healthy and childhood obesity is a problem in America, but you just don't do that. If she wants to aim to be a model more power to her. When you are 10 your body is changing, how does Luann know how she will end up...and there are many types of models out there.

This was a SELF ESTEEM workshop! Does she really think telling a 10 year old she is fat will build self esteem? No wonder young girls have eating disorders.

Luann you claim to be a role model and that you want to help people...but you are so out of touch with reality it is scary. Thank God Rosie the housekeeper raised your children, who knows what you would have done to them on your own. I hope that little girl in Brooklyn has better role models in her life and didn't listen to any of your mindless, self-absorbed, drivel. Shame on you.

On Suits...

Tomorrow is my company's annual stockholders meeting and on the off chance that someone important may walk our lowly cubicles we had to clean our desks and have to wear "business formal" attire. In true bureaucratic fashion at least 17 different emails went out explaining not only what "business formal" means, but why we need to wear it, what we should be wearing normally, then further clarification that the email about what we should wear normally did not mean that tomorrow is a normal day, and on, and on, and on. Yawn.

Apparently for women this means a suit or a dress with pantyhose. To be honest, I really dislike suits. Every suit that I have owned...which fortunately haven't been many...have made me look like a man, a character from "Men in Black," or like I was on my way to an "Executive Bros and Office Hos" mixer (yes, I have been to one of those by the way.) Hence I am going to wear a dress tomorrow. And I only wear suits to interviews...then hope for the best.

Why can't I look like this in a suit? Fabulous.

We Are Getting Our Puppy!

And here she is...


On Saturday we went to the breeder to pick her out and we are so excited to bring her home! Here are some answers to the common questions we have gotten from our friends and family about our new little fur baby:

What kind of a dog is she?: She is a shichon, her father is a bichon frise and her mother is a shih tzu.

How old is she?: Her birthday is March 12, so she is about 3 weeks old.

When are you bringing her home?: The breeder told us we could potentially bring her home on May 9th but if for some reason her litter wasn't eating well or big enough, we wouldn't be able to bring her home until the next weekend, so we are just going to hold off until then anyways, and will bring her home the weekend of May 16th. I am planning on taking some time off of work to get her acclimated.

Will you be able to see her again before you bring her home?: Absolutely! The breeder is really great and said we could go she her/check on her as often as we want but they have to be 6 weeks before they let them run around and play with you. Since the breeder is almost 2 hours away I (K probably won't be able to go because he will be in the middle of finals) going to go up another time on May 2nd. They are going to send us pictures every couple of weeks as well.

How many puppies did you look at: Our puppy had 2 sisters and there were 2 girls from another younger litter, but as soon as we saw ours we knew we wanted her!

Have you named her yet: Yes we have! We actually have been thinking about names for a long time but couldn't agree on anything. Finally we came up with Hanna, which is a shortened version of our college's name, where K and I met.

Fashion Friday---Maxi Dresses

Today's Fashion Friday is devoted to a controversial topic, the maxi dress. Last summer I really wanted to get one but everyone I tried on made me look like some giant fabric blob. I am no Dolly Parton, but I do have a larger chest which means unfourtunatly flow-y clothing items can make me look pregnant. The maxi dresses that crossed my path either didn't fit on top, were too long, or made me look like I have about to give birth.

However, I am not giving up.



These have restored my faith in the maxi dress, but I am not willing to spend my entire savings on an clothing item I don't really think has much staying power.

I am on a quest to find reasonably priced, flattering maxi dresses for the summer.


Clothes from The Limited tend to fit me well so this might work. I like the halter top.

I tried on a few at Old Navy recently and ran into the waaaay too small in the top problem. I didn't see this one, too bad it doesn't come in more colors. I like the white but I am pretty pale, blue maybe?

This might be my favorite so far...plus it is neutral so I could wear it a lot, dress it up or dress it down.

Puppy History or Pup-story if you will

I so excited about going to see the puppies on Saturday, since I have puppies on the brain and will be posting more about my soon to be puppy I thought I would blog a bit on how I got to this point.

One of the things I was most excited about being able to do when I got out of college was get a puppy and I wanted to get something small, cute, and girly. My family had dogs...chows specifically...the whole time I was growing up. The first was Sasha, who my mom got when she was just out of college. Sasha was a great dog but I can only remember her being old. She died on Thanksgiving when I was in fourth grade and then we got another chow named Cheva. Cheva was a very funny dog, she was almost like a cat, she loved drinking milk and eating food off of forks.



This is her, when she was getting old. Probably not the best picture but you get the point. She died when I was a senior in college and my whole family was really devastated. Especially my dad, I don't think I have ever seen him so upset. My parents announced that they were not getting a new dog because they didn't want to be tied down and they "wanted new carpet." My brother, sister and I tried to convince them otherwise but it didn't work. We gave up on them getting a dog and I started to try and figure out what kind of dog I would get.

My mom was very enthusiastic about me getting a puppy, I thought she secretly wanted one herself, we would always look together and discovered shichons. They are so cute and don't shed which is good because sometimes certain dogs bother my allergies. My mom kept pressuring me to get one, but K and I planned to wait until this spring or summer, after he finished his first year of law school.

This fall my mom decided to surprise everyone (except me I knew, but boy, was my dad shocked) by getting a shichon puppy. His full name is Godric Gryffindor aka Gryffin (we are a family of Harry Potter fans.)

This is my little puppy brother on his first day home, he is much larger now (13 pounds) and is super lovable.

So that is my pup-story, we will be looking at five girl puppies on Saturday and hopefully picking one out! More to come!

Mee-ow and Woof

First of all...holy cat fight Batman...my mouth way literally hanging open while watching "Real Housewives" last night. Kelly may in fact be more deranged then Ramona, in fact Ramona came off as semi-normal last night. Now I know I said cat fight but it was more of a cat attack as my girl Bethanney could hardly get a word in during Leatherface's insane ranting...out.of.control.

Second...big news! On Saturday K and I are going to a breeder to look at puppies! We have been planning on getting a puppy in the Spring/Summer for a while but I have been holding off on blogging about it until we had more definite plans. More to come on this but I just had to share because I am sooooo excited!
