it's the final countdown

Have you notice I am just a little obsessed with this whole quitting-my-job-conversation-with- my-boss thing?

Well in case you haven't, let me further illustrate my obsession...

I have my "official" resignation letter all printed out and signed. And hidden in my desk. Because we know the cleaning people might see it tonight and spill the beans before I can.

I have a draft of an email to my boss asking if I can meet with her at some point saved and ready to be sent as soon as I get in tomorrow. Because one sentence emails take so long to type.

Here is the problem. I have no idea what I am going to say once I get in the room with my boss. And I think blurting out "I QUIT" is considered unprofessional.

So yea, we shall see how it goes. I promise this is my last post about this...well except for when I tell you how it goes tomorrow! How could I leave you having after all this build up? It would be like blogging blue balls.

Any last words of advice?

I've never done this but if I was in your shoes I would be completely fretting about this too. That's great that you got everything all ready to go so you don't have to stress that. I wouldn't say "I quit" tho. lol.

I would send her the email first thing in the morning & just try to act cool calm & collective. Try not to be all goodbyes til after you talk to your boss. If it's possible to get a good night's sleep tonight too that might help!

Good luck!!!!

Good luck! I've never had to quit a "real" job, the only job I've quit is a retail job and that's because I started my "big kid" job after college!

I guess my only advice is to be honest and try to remain friendly, because you don't want to burn any bridges!

good luck!! gaah it is so nerve wracking. i had to resign from one job where i just wasn't happy, but had been there for years and knew the place inside and out. i cried. and the person i gave my notice turned ghost white and was like "do you want more money? more vacation? what do you want?!" it was hard, but i stayed firm and got through it. the second job i left was like no bigs. i hated the company, and wasn't crazy about my boss.
the only advice i can give is to stay positive and calm, and it will be fine. you are quitting for an amazing reason, so they should be understanding!!
Good Luck!! :)

Good Luck!!! I would recommend making it clear that you are going back to school and this is something that you are really excited about, that way they can be nothing but happy for you!

GOOD LUCK!!! Can't wait to hear how it goes!
when I gave my notice (i told you about yesterday) I clammed up, turned bright red and had to hold back tears, sO um, I am not a role model for that! :) That was 3 years ago though. I would like to think I am more mature now, but probably not! :)
I thinkt he fact you are going back to school is the best thing to lead with! I mean, how can a boss be upset with someone for wanting to further their education!?

You can do it honey! Just tell your boss the truth and they will understand do it as soon as possible so that you can relax and they will have enough time to get a replacement:)

It's going to go better than you expect. This stuff happens all the time. It's just the cyclical part of a job. You'll be fine.

Though I am a little anxious for your follow up post now. :)

End it by thanking her for the opportunities she's given you. You'll go out on a high note. Good luck!
