ode to eggnog

Yesterday my day was made when I read this quote from Nicole Richie: "I'm a big eggnog drinker. Not the kind with alcohol in it, but the regular kind. I thought that everyone drinks eggnog, but as I'm getting older, I'm learning that people actually think it's really gross, but I love it, so I will definitely have some eggnog!"

Finally, a kindred eggnog spirit. Except, she is far skinner then I am and I will never drink eggnog with her or even stand next to her because it will make me feel bad about myself. If I was ever somewhere with her I would eat plain lettuce leaves and give her all the eggnog...she needs it more.

But seriously, I think her quote summed me up perfectly. Every year when I notice that eggnog has appeared in the grocery store I know that Christmas is finally here.

In my opinion the only eggnog worth drinking is the canned kind. Although, I have never actually tried homemade, the thought of drinking something made by a random person in their kitchen with raw eggs makes me feel like I am going hurl. I have had it with booze mixed in, and like Nicole, I prefer it plain.

Also like Nicole, I always assumed everyone loves eggnog as much as I do...but they don't. No one ever drinks it but me. Why is that? It's amazing. I don't understand.
Do you drink eggnog?

Honestly I don't think I've ever tried it. I know I've been places where there is the homemade stuff, I'm kinda happy now that I didn't try it if its made with raw eggs. Yikes!!

I might try the carton one some day. It does look yummmy. =)

I think I need to be more educated about eggnog. Now, I originally thought eggnog was always an alcoholic drink (for many many years I thought this) I later found out that it isn't always. (I have seen it at grocery stores) But, I don't know how it is made. Also, I saw a special by Martha Stewart about how to make eggnog and was shocked at the amount of alcohol she put in it. (She did make a big punch bowl size, but..) she put like 6 CUPS of brandy, some bourbon/rum, and some other type of alcohol. The recipe had like 9 cups of alcohol. So I thought the alcohol killed all the samanila (how do you spell that bacteria?) and other bacteria. So I was wondering how to make it non-alcohol and it still be safe????? Don't worth the risk to me. I am guessing factories heat it to a high temp to kill everything????

Nicole Richie does NOT drink eggnog. She looks at it.
Also I am afraid of it. It's drinking egg.

OMG I looove eggnog! :) We even have a carton here in our office fridge, I think we're all addicted! Ronnie even brought some home the other day - it was Southern Comfort eggnog. Even though it was non alcoholic I thought for sure it would have that taste but it didn't and it was the BEST, most fattening, yummy drink I'd ever had! :p
