The Carb-less House

I'm back from a lovely weekend in...you guessed it...DC, full of many fun events which I will post about just as soon as I can steal some pictures from my friend, E.R., as of course I didn't take any of my own.

In the meantime K and I started doing Atkins today, I have just been finding it hard to actually lose weight by watching what I eat so I thought I (and K) would try something different. We also both love meat so hopefully that will work in our favor! I know Atkins has been criticized by some, but I know a lot of people that it has really worked for and if you actually read the book and follow that it is much more balanced then just eat a bunch of meat and cheese.

We are in the "induction phase" right now, and I have to say if everyday is this yummy I don't think I will have much problem sticking to it. I had a turkey sausage, cheddar cheese, and egg scramble for breakfast, half and avocado and crab salad for lunch and salmon, spinach salad and some mozzarella cheese for dinner...and I found I didn't get as hungry throughout the day. They say the 2nd and 3rd day of "induction" can be the worst...but both of us are committed so I think we can get through it. Wish me luck!

And to end this on a random note...they are building homecoming floats on "Greek" tonight and I must say I built (almost single handedly...if I may brag for a moment) 2 amazing floats while in college, including one with a life sized chicken wire and paper mache crocodile. It is very hard to wrestle 8 feet of chicken wire...I still have scars. Those were the days.

Pandora and Weekend Plans

Why is it that whenever I go shopping with my mom I end up spending WAY more money then I plan? Case in point...last night a local jeweler was having a Pandora event with a wine tasting and a "deal" where if you spent $150 on Pandora you got a set of adorable wine glass charms (you know those things you put on a wine glass to identify which one is yours.) My mom, sister and I all have Pandora charm bracelets so we thought we would at least drink free wine check it out....and let's just say several glasses of wine later we each walked out with our own set of wine glass charms. Great idea Mom, my wallet thanks you for making it lighter. All joking aside, it was a lot of fun and my bracelet looks great. I wear it everyday, so new charms are good investment ;)

With all the shopping last night I didn't have time to pack yet. I getting together with a couple of my best friends for a fun filled weekend that might include some of these...

Or possibly them...

And naturally a lot of this...

Any ideas as to what I will be doing and where I am going? Or what I should pack...since I am a slacker and haven't done that yet?

I hope you have a Happy Friday and a fab weekend!

Have you noticed my presence in the blog world during the day lately? Not that I expected you to...but the reason is the whole no going on the internet at work thing...seems to have fizzled. Thank God. I don't know how I got through the past few months without the use of my beloved internet between the hours of 8:30-5:30.

Get to the Book Already!

That's what I was thinking watching Real Housewives of New Jersey. After all the hype about this book that allegedly reveals Danielle was part of some kind of 1980s Bonnie and Clyde duo, I was dying to see it addressed on the show.

But I had to watch a bunch of random stuff first...

Like Dina preparing her daughter, Lexi, for a trip to Cyprus with her father. Why doesn't my dad ever take my to Cyprus...I am jealous. The whole packing scene was pretty funny. But who has a going away party for a vacation? Confusing...but fun. The goodbye scene was pretty cute. Dina and Lexi seem to have a good relationship.

Finally Juicy Joe got some camera time at the dancing lessons, I have been waiting to see more of him...and my love of Caroline and her family expanded, I would really like to hang out with them. Danielle was trained, professionally as a dancer alright...at the Bada Bing. (forgive me, I have been waiting 4 episodes to get a Soprano's reference into RHONJ.) She was out of control at the dance lesson, poor Albie. And now she has insulted Juicy Joe, which is too bad she won't be able to get many dollar bills in her g-string tips with broken kneecaps.

I actually think it is very noble that Jacqueline and her husband are letting the cameras film them struggling with fertility, so many people deal with that and it is always nice to have someone to relate to.

Then finally...the book...is it bad that I want to read it? I think Caroline's assessment was spot on, Danielle is preying on Jacqueline because she is so sweet and kind. Jacqueline needs to find a new friend and listen to her family. I don't believe a word that Danielle said to be honest, yes she may have made mistakes when she was younger, which is fine...but she is still a creep. I don't care if a house has a million rooms, if you are there and something is going on that would attract the attention of the FBI...you should know about it.

Speaking of a million rooms...at Chateau Juicy...land of millions of tons of marble, granite, onyx and hand forged iron...moving day arrived. And the little girl's reaction was precious...all snark aside. Gia's unpacking was too cute. I just hope they don't bump their heads on all the stone. Kinda funny that just because the furniture came "off the back of truck" Joe automatically assumed it was free.

So what did you girls think of this episode?

P.S. Has anyone else noticed how many times these women say things that are just completely wrong...i.e. Danielle said she wanted to "establish" the rumors about her, sweetie, a better word would be "clarify" or when she said there is "dialect" written about everyone...that makes no sense. Dina said there were some things "underlining" the surface...huh? Underlying? Please ladies, if you are trying to sound smarter...it isn't working.

Holy Carbs, Batman

Personally, if I am going to eat pasta or pizza I prefer to get it from local Italian restaurants, not chains like Domino's, so I don't really pay much attention what they advertise. In normal situations. However, Domino's has been blasting these commercials for the "pasta in a bread bowl," and I have taken notice.

I like pasta. I like bread bowls (especially with soup in them from Panara...yum!) But this combination just seems like overkill. Don't we have an obesity problem in America? Do we really need our carbs in a carb bowl?

Not saying I wouldn't enjoy eating cheesy pasta in a bowl of bread...or that I am some kind of nutritionist. But I just don't see why this needed to be created. I guess Domino's just wants us all to get even fatter. Thanks Domino's.

By the way...I love the tomato and fresh basil in this picture...like that makes it healthy.

In a Dream?

Has this ever happened to any of you?

Of course I have had times where I was having a dream that was so realistic I woke up and kind of continued the dream, for example one time I was dreaming I was late for high school so I woke up (kind of half asleep) and got all ready for school...at 2 am. My parents were thrilled when I woke them up and said I needed a ride because I missed the bus.

In that case, and the few other times this has happened, I remembered waking up and the activities that happened while I was awake...even if they were prompted by a dream. And it isn't the same as sleepwalking (which I have done before and never remembered anything.)

Until Friday night, when I had a whole new dream experience...I legitimately have no idea if this really happened. I know I was having a dream where I went to bed without putting the dog in her crate and her and Gyffin (my parents dog who was at my apartment for some reason in the dream) were wandering the house. Now this is the part I thought really happened...I jumped out of bed and started walking around my bed saying, "Where are the dogs?" and K looked up and said, "She is in her crate" (which is still on our bed by the way) and so I said, "Oh, I was dreaming," and got back into bed.

The next morning I asked K about it and he said he doesn't remember me getting up, so I have no idea if the whole thing was a dream. Or just the beginning part, like I thought. Very weird.

P.S. In the middle of typing this post one of our toilet tanks cracked...out of nowhere! Water was spilling everywhere! Luckily K thought on his feet while I called the emergency maintenance line and he stopped the water before anything could be damaged. They are going to fix it tomorrow. It's times like this where I am very glad we don't own a house yet!
