coming halfway out of the closet

When I started this blog I was very concerned with remaining anonymous. For a long time I didn't put any pictures up and was very careful about not telling anyone from the blogging world my real name. As I read more blogs I realized that I could be more personal and put up pictures while still keeping it from potentially interfering with say, my career.

I was (and am) happy with the balance I found, but there was one issue. No one in my "real life", except K, knew about my blog. Part of me was worried about being judged by them or that they would think it was weird. The other part just had no idea how to work it into a conversation. So I did nothing.

My other concern was after going so long without telling anyone I worried whenever I did tell them they would be mad I hadn't come clean from the beginning.

This weekend I came halfway out of the blogging closet. It was pretty unexpected. Out to dinner with my best friends in Philly, after a lot of wine, the conversation turned to the fact that a couple of them were thinking about starting their own blogs and I blurted out my "big secret."

Turns out they were not weird about it at all and very supportive. I'm glad that they know. I still haven't told my family but I would like to find a way to do that sometime soon.

To my "real life" friends who may now be reading...welcome and thanks for being so awesome!

To my bloggy friends...do your real life friends and families know about your blogs? How did you tell them?

(PS I will do a post about my interview and the rest of my weekend very soon...with pictures! Thanks for all the interview fashion advice. I also need to catch up on my blog reading so sorry for the lack of comments!)

Girl, when I started my blog, I emailed everyone I KNEW! Haha! I wanted everyone I knew to read it. But many of my blog friends are anonymous.

I've told some people about my blog but not many. My blog is more of a place where I vent about like, "How could this happen? How could people act this way?" so I think I'd get in major trouble if they read it. I do post pics of myself & my real name is Melanie but I do keep that lil bit of anonymonity from my friends & the blogging world. It's my lil safe haven so it's probably gunna remain that way too.

I think that's really cool tho to get your friends & family more involved. A blog is a success I think, & to be recongnized must be a great feeling. =)

Personally, I have no problem telling people about my blog. It's just like any other hobby. Then again, I also collect dolls, so the blogging could probably be considered the less weird thing that I do.

I'm glad your friends were all so supportive and it would be cool if you inspired them to start their own blogs!

Hi Cee's real life friends!

Yeah, everyone under the sun knows about my blog. Which has it's ups and downs but for the most part it has been fine.

Only my hubby knows about my blog. I just don't really talk about it but I would hope that if I did my friends wouldn't think I was weird!

My fiance has known from the beginning and he is always telling people about it. It doesn't bother me that people know at all and for the most part even people who thinks its a little weird have been supportive.

Congrats on coming out! Most of my friends know about the blog and my family does too. It keeps everyone in the loop as to what is happening in my world!!

congrats on coming out! The only people in the real world who know about my blog is my DH, my sister, and some girls I met on the knot then in real life while planning my wedding.

I'm Mrs. Love bug because I like to be annoymous. It's much easier to talk about my vagina and what's coming out of it that way.

I have it on my facebook, but I didn't tell anyone. My parents still don't know. Not that I do or say anything bad. I understand your pain.

Very intresting! I told a few close friends when I started my blog. I started mine because my Best friend had a blog. She has since lost the time to keep up with it. At one point I told my MIL in NZ about the blog..and she used to read, but I am pretty sure she forgot about it now. My parents know I have a blog, but I didnt give them the site. My husband does not read it either, which is good because I talk about him..haha. And when I started my blog, he asked me NOT to talk about him or post pictures of him. As you can see...I didnt listen! :)
Since starting, I have given the site to a few more friends, but I dont want any old Acquaintance to read…if that makes sense. I would NEVER EVER put my blog site on my FB page or anything. I like to control who I know in real life reading. And, I would die if anyone from my work ever found my blog. Congrats on the half way coming out!!

the day i started a blog, i called up my mom and was all like:

me: "hey mom, i started a blog. since you're my mom and you have to support me, you should read it. (i verbally give her the web address.)"

mom: "okay, cool."

(30 minutes later, i text her.)

me: "mom, have you read it???"

mom: "no, i keep spelling 'flash pasteurized' wrong..."
---

my mom has since told some of her friends about my blog.

my boyfriend and close friends have known about it from the beginning. the only thing my bf teases me about is how i've actually made good friends blogging. he's super private and to himself, so i guess he doesn't get it. (he refuses to be on facebook, twitter, linkedin, or anything else) overall, he's super supportive. all my best friends read/love my blog daily though they do not have their own blogs which is nice.

I told my friends but not my family. It's a great way for me to keep up with my friends from far away. I haven't told my family just because they're not likely to blog or read blogs. Also I may need to vent here and there, and wouldn't want to hurt any feelings.

I'm a new follower. Just about everyone I know except my work people know that I have a blog. Everyone loves that I was brave enough to start one. The only real concern I initially had was creepy people reading but I got over that.

well, my coworkers know i blog, but don't read it, a few friends know i blog, but thats about it. manfriend knows i am into the blogging world, but doesn't really know i have one- it hasn't come up. it's not that i am hiding it from him, i guess i just want it to be "my" place, ya know? i don't need his boy opinion on stuff...
welcome to cee's RLFs! ;)

I think (well I KNOW) my mom is my #1 reader - haha!

I have definitely told all of my friends and family about it and they are all dedicated readers! Even Mason's grandmother has started reading it!

The only drawback about having everyone in your life reading your blog is that you have to hold back some stuff. I have honestly contemplated creating a second blog that no one I know would know about, so that I can vent about anything and anyone....we shall see! ;)

Some friends know, some don't. My mom has the address, but I doubt she ever reads :)

I'm still pretty much in the blogging closet. W knows, but doesn't know where.... I'd tell people if they asked though, I've just never really had the opportunity to bring it up! Perhaps one day :)
