Tomorrow morning I have my big interview at School #1. My mom works with some people who have gone through this program and they have told her mixed information about what happens during the interview. So I'm not sure what to expect. Surprisingly I am not that nervous, since I really want to do this I don't think I will have any problem answering questions and I have questions to ask too, always a plus in an interview.
Here is the issue. I don't know what I should wear.
I hate suits, they look horrible on me. When I wear them I look either frumpy or like I'm going to a slutty office mixer. For that reason I only have one that I got at The Limited when I was job hunting post college. Normally for those interviews I wore the suit, which is basic, black with a very small pinstripe, with a white button down shirt. I prefer to wear the suit pants instead of the pencil skirt. I just don't know if I should go super business-y for a school interview. Plus, I am trying to be a teacher so I want show some personality.
So here are my ideas for tomorrow...tell me what you think:
1) Wear the suit with a white shirt. Traditional and kind of boring but safe.
2)Wear the suit with a colored button down. It's a slight variation.
3)Wear the suit with a bright colored turtleneck and perhaps a black statement necklace. A little more of a fun look.
4) Don't wear the suit at all and figure something else out. Maybe a black dress.
Help me please ladies!

Hmmm I've been asking myself similar questions about interviews. I'd say do some splash of color with the suit. If you have an Express by you, they have very nice business button-downs & other types of colorful shirts. The white shirt is a lil boring & with kids now-a-days schools want to see a vibrant person.

i think i agree with melanie- i would say go the suit route, but add a bright button down under it. you could even still do a slightly funky necklace or something (i always like a necklace with a button down, draws the eyes to the girls- oh wait. you might not want that for a school...)

I'm a big advocate of a non-traditional suit, like a velvet blazer with a great pair of trousers and a bright silk top underneath. If you do go the traditional suit route, I would add a bright pop of color with a crewneck top and a statement piece of jewelry (earrings or a necklace). I always try to let a bit of my personality shine through. Good luck!
What if you did the suit pants with a colored turtleneck sweater and a big necklace?? It would still be dressy, but wouldn't be super formal and would show personality without trying too hard.

Not that I can get a job as a teacher, but I have been to interviews and when there are girls not wearing suits its says to me that they don't care. The one thing you can prepare ahead of time is your outfit and you should try to look as professional as possible. That first impression is very important. You can wear a different color button down under the jacket to add a little personality. They will remember you for the things you say. Good luck.
Just to clarify...this isn't a JOB interview it's a grad school interview...which is why I am thinking about being a little less traditional.
I think because it's a school interview, you don't have to business it up too much. I think I'd say option 4. (Oh and if you have a statement necklace, include that. Funky necklaces are my favorite.)

It's a nice balance between dress-casual college student and professional business woman.
I am not a turtleneck fan so I can't say three even though that's the fun choice. I say #2.

Since it's not such a formal business interview I think you could definitely get by sans suit. Sometimes when I go to teacher interviews, I wear a nice, yet conservative, dress. Hey, but what do I know... not like anyone has hired me yet! ;)
I agree since its not a work interview a suit is not required. As long as you're modest (and i would say be yourself, be fun!) then you're good to go..

I have been on many teaching interviews and come to this problem every time. It really is annoying since we never have to wear a suit when we actually get the job...although you have to look as professional as possible, hence the suit. One time I wore a pant suit with a white button down underneath the black jacket and a fun necklace...it was professional and put together, yet not over the top.
