Hey!!
When I first got my pup I took 2 weeks off to stay home with him, and my BF took the following 2 weeks off to stay home.
We crate trained Mugz by having him stay in the crate with the door closed while we were home so that he would get used to it, just for like 15-20 minutes at a time, and always with toys and a blanket in there, and we never put him in the crate for doing something naughty, we wanted him to see the crate as a safe place.
After about 2 weeks of only having him in the crate with the door closed he started going in on his own just to relax! It was super hard to hear him cry, but it gets easier!
I was actually going to say something similar to the comment above! :)
We had our first puppy Niles in the crate and we'd leave our apartment and hear him howling all the way to the parking lot. So we felt sooo bad but knew he had to get used to it. We also talked to our surrounding neighbors who were OK with it, because they said he usually stopped after an hour or so. Then we got the second pup and we had the same thing all over again. But finally he got totally used to it too.
Now we can just say "Get in!" (in a really cheery tone) and they'll jump right in. We have a blanket in there and we give them a couple toys and treats and they're good for the whole time we're at work. And at night we say "Let's go nite nite!" and they jump in, because they look forward to their treats. And then we cover their crate with a sheet, with room to breathe at the bottom of course and they crash right out! Basically, it's hard (like with a new baby) in the beginning but it gets SO much easier. Just make sure to always repeat the same phrases and same actions for praising or for discipline - you'd be amazed at how quickly they learn!
Loved reading more about you! I may have to copy you :)
My favorite Beatle is Paul too ;)
I like this one, it's very open ended. When I got my license, I drove a 1995 maroon Buick Regal, haha. The only other people I ever saw driving one around were senior citizens.
